Theme: Learn Asmat way of daily living and witness how they live in modern days

D1: Arrival in Asmat Regency, Ewer Airport. Transfer to Atsj district by speedboat, check in at local accomodation, visit Asmat Traditional house called Jeu House, meet & greet with the Asmat tribes, see bewit at night.

D2: Travel to Bunmut jungle with motorized long boat, catch river prawns & fish, short trekking into Bunmut jungle, learn the process of making sago the whole day and hunt for sago worms

D3: Sightseeing & photo hunting Atsj village - some roads of wooden plank bridges are refined by concrete, see the process making of Asmat special handmade crafts, rowing with Asmat traditional canoe to Amanamkei village, visit Jeu house, sightseeing & photo hunting in Amanamkei Village, go back to Atsj

D4: Go to Agats, say goodbye to our local team, check in at local accomodation, sightseeing & photo hunting Agats. Have a stroll around the capital city of Asmat. Known as city of wooden planks and the mud men. All activities and livings are done on stilts. There are iconic objects such as the statue Pastor of Jan Smith, Museum and bis poles. See the local activities in the market, go to Syuru Village, and if you want ride electricity motorbike (this works like mobile phone – no petrol but charge it with electricity!).

D5: Go home - transfer by speedboat to Ewer Airport – Timika - proceed to other destinations

This will aid us for a smooth coordination, arrangements and preparations in this remote area.

Passports must be valid for at least 6 months when entering Indonesia. Most nationalities will receive a visa on arrival (free of charge). Please check with your local Indonesian embassy if you require a special visa for Indonesia and about the procedure.

Trip can’t be planned as fix date. So, you need to prepare some extra dates off but of course we will make sure everything is on time.

The condition is not for a comfortable trip.

Itinerary may change in the field due to weather conditions or unexpected events.

Asmat is unique. It is difficult to access the area also going out. There are 3 kinds of transportation alternatives to reach Asmat:

Small passenger flights ( +/- 1 hour)

Speed boat (+/- 3 hours)

Ship (+/- 8-12 hours)

There are many factors that influence the access difficulties:

Weather

When it rains, we have to wait 2 days or if lucky there might be the next flight - because they won’t operate when it’s raining due to the slippery landing. So, other alternatives are off course the speed boat or ship. Recently, the small airstrip has been developed in the hope to allow bigger planes to land in the future.

Manpower

Sometimes, we have to be patient and aware of our schedules. Human resources are still being the main focus to develop in Asmat. This Asmat adventure programme will help contribute and mentor in that particular area.

The Asmats still strongly practice their custom and traditions, although some worked in the office nowadays.

Asmat life really depends on the weather and nature.

Contribute our knowledge for the local or spare some time to share with the locals/tribes especially at the third day of our trip. Example: journalism class, photography, communication class, English class. If you don’t want that is also okay. If you have a request regarding contribution please let us know in advance.

Accomodation: Local house/local hotel/Jeu House

Meals are provided by local warung and depends on the availability of stocks from the market.

Electricity is poor. Atsj district starts at 18.00pm – 6am. Prepare to charge your phones and camera. Agats are 24 hours.

Clean water obtained from rainwater catch.

Other than anything else, please enjoy the trip. Adventure starts since you take the small aircraft to Asmat. Indulge in the ambience of intense coastal mangrove forest and river channel scenery, interact with the Asmats and learn how they survive in the modern days.
